An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Marine Systems Engineer to work in our rapidly expanding Malin Equipment Business.   

 

As a group we have worked across a range of iconic projects, with respected clients – from Hinckley Point C to the Type 26 – and this is your chance to join the team as we expand and diversify. As a hybrid role, you will share your time across our offices in Westway, Renfrew, South Rotunda Headquarters, and home – as well as site visits where required.

 

Your role as a Marine System Engineer will be to work closely with the vessel and platform newbuild and conversion design team, conducting subsystems design.  Candidates can expect to be involved in all aspects of subsystem design, from developing client requires into functional requirements to through build technical support. 

 

Role

 

  • Understanding client operational requirements and developing these into subsystem functional requirements
  • Developing platform functional requirements into discipline work packages
  • Working closely with the Naval Architecture team to allocate and monitor weight and volume envelopes for platform subsystems
  • Specification, selection and design of vessel onboard mechanical / gas and fluid systems
  • Failure Mode Effect Analysis of platform subsystems
  • Through Build Technical Support

Experience

 

Prior experience to include some of the following:

 

  • Platform/system/equipment design and development for marine programmes
  • Marine systems architecture modelling, design and development
  • CADMID life-cycle
  • Awareness of Defence Standards
  • Ability to contribute to activities within a team environment including work package creation, task management, and delivery
  • Ability to lead activities within a team, work package creation, management, and delivery

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Technical Aptitude – role requires the ability to complete key tasks with rare assistance from more senior staff
  • Problem Solving – the role requires the ability to solve problems under sometimes very tight restrictions and innovative thinking of benefit
  • Diligent – delivery of projects is reliant on staff being responsible and ensuring their tasks are carried out properly and on time, as well as ensure others in the company are doing same
  • Good communicator – able to deal with all levels of staff, from successfully passing on skills and techniques to junior engineers up to presenting designs to external parties
  • Practical Knowledge – site or yard experience is of benefit but not essential
  • Clean Driver’s Licence – required for attending meetings and site work

 

Qualifications Requirements

 

Minimum 2nd Class degree in Marine Systems Small Craft OR Relevant degree in engineering subject at 2nd class level minimum or equivalent OR lesser degrees subject to proven experience
