An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Marine Electrical Engineer to work in our rapidly expanding Malin Equipment Business.  

 

As a group we have worked across a range of iconic projects, with respected clients – from Hinckley Point C to the Type 26 – and this is your chance to join the team as we expand and diversify. As a hybrid role, you will share your time across our offices in Westway, Renfrew, South Rotunda Headquarters, and home – as well as site visits where required.


As an experienced Marine Electrical Engineer, your role will be to perform a variety of design focused tasks, relating to the electrical power generation and distribution systems onboard newbuild vessels (generators, switchgear, circuit protection, UPS, battery chargers, emergency power systems, fault propagation, HV & LV systems), including electrical systems associated with mission critical equipment such as ballast and bilge systems, cranes, freshwater supply and seawater cooling systems.


Your role as a Marine Electrical Engineer will be to perform a variety of design focused tasks as listed below:


  • Review of fault protection studies, short circuit analysis, voltage dip ride through studies and similar electrical calculation/simulation studies.
  • Perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
  • General Marine consultancy within the electrical discipline.
  • Perform risk based critical analysis with respect to electrical systems on mission specific equipment with regards to design, operational interface, capability and general suitability for intended operations.

 

Experience


  • Electrical engineering degree or suitable experience from a suitable role working at sea
  • Experience of performing FMEAs on marine systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with IMCA, IMO, MTS and OCIMF codes and guidelines.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Technical Aptitude – role requires the ability to complete key tasks with rare assistance from more senior staff
  • Problem Solving – the role requires the ability to solve problems under sometimes very tight restrictions and innovative thinking of benefit
  • Diligent – delivery of projects is reliant on staff being responsible and ensuring their tasks are carried out properly and on time, as well as ensure others in the company are doing same
  • Good communicator – able to deal with all levels of staff, from successfully passing on skills and techniques to junior engineers up to presenting designs to external parties
  • Practical Knowledge – site or yard experience is of benefit but not essential
  • Clean Driver’s Licence – required for attending meetings and site work

 

Qualifications Requirements

 

Minimum 2nd Class degree in Electrical Engineering or Small Craft OR Relevant degree in engineering subject at 2nd class level minimum or equivalent OR lesser degrees subject to proven experience
